For the first time ever, the Transformers franchise will make its San Diego Comic-Con debut in Hall H on Friday, July 20 from 5-6 PM.
While many fanboy sites speculated about this, Paramount is making the news official this morning.
The Paramount session will feature cast members Hailee Steinfeld, John Cena, Jorge Lendeborg Jr. and director Travis Knight, and will be solely focused on Bumblebee. Footage from the movie was unveiled back in April at CinemaCon. The pic opens Dec. 21.
Two years ago at Comic-Con, Paramount pulled out all the stops for a Star Trek Beyond outdoor world premiere complete with a live orchestra playing the score as the movie played. Even though Mission: Impossible – Fallout opens on July 27, the studio will not be featuring the Tom Cruise movie at SDCC. Rather a big global launch with multi-country premieres is planned for that spy thriller. That said, it’s not out of the question should Cruise parachute into Paramount’s session given the fact that he’s shooting the Top Gun sequel down there (Paramount did not hint that this would occur).
Paramount joins Universal, Sony, 20th Century Fox and Warner Bros. in bringing Hall H product down to San Diego in a year that lacks Disney’s Marvel’s Cinematic Universe and Star Wars.
Sony Pictures launched the first trailer for the animated adaptation “Spider-Man: Into the Spider Verse” Wednesday, and confirmed the remaining voice cast.
In addition to Miles Morales as Spider-Man, Jake Johnson is joining the cast as Miles’ reluctant mentor, Peter Parker, with Liev Schreiber playing the larger-than-life crime lord Kingpin; Hailee Steinfeld playing the spunky, free-spirited Spider-Gwen; Mahershala Ali as Miles’ influential uncle Aaron; Brian Tyree Henry playing Miles’ father Jefferson; Luna Lauren Velez as Miles’ mother Rio; and Lily Tomlin as Aunt May.
The trailer sees Peter Parker showing Morales the ropes in a universe where more than one can wear the Spider-Man mask.
“One thing I know for sure,” Johnson’s character says. “Don’t do it like me. Do it like you.”
Producers Phil Lord and Chris Miller said, “We are lucky to have such an amazing cast of funny, genuine creative souls to populate the Spider-verse. They have generous minds and great big hearts. And they have very talented throats. Which is where their delightful voices come from. We can’t wait for the world to see Miles Morales on the big screen. He’s such a fun and exciting new character, and telling his story through a revolutionary visual style makes for a totally fresh cinematic experience that, if we may say so, is freaking amazing.”
Bob Persichetti, Peter Ramsey, and Rodney Rothman are directing from a screenplay by Lord. The film is produced, in association with Marvel, by Avi Arad, Amy Pascal, Lord, Miller, and Christina Steinberg.
On the run in the year 1987, Bumblebee finds refuge in a junkyard in a small Californian beach town. Charlie, on the cusp of turning 18 and trying to find her place in the world, discovers Bumblebee, battle-scarred and broken.
Apple has given a straight-to-series order to Dickinson, a half-hour comedy starring Oscar-nominated actress Hailee Steinfeld (Pitch Perfect 3, True Grit) in the title role of 1800s poet Emily Dickinson, from Paul Lee’s recently launched independent studio, wiip, Alex Goldstone for Anonymous Content, Michael Sugar and Ashley Zalta for Sugar23 Productions, David Gordon Green, Darlene Hunt and Alena Smith (The Affair, The Newsroom).
Written by Smith, Dickinson is set during Emily Dickinson’s era with a modern sensibility and tone. It takes viewers into the world of Emily (Steinfeld), audaciously exploring the constraints of society, gender, and family from the perspective of a budding writer who doesn’t fit in to her own time through her imaginative point of view. Dickinson is Emily’s coming-of-age story – one woman’s fight to get her voice heard.
Born in 1830, Emily Dickinson is considered one of America’s greatest and most original poets of all time.
Steinfeld received a supporting actor Oscar nomination for her performance in 2010’s True Grit and a leading actress Golden Globe nom for 2016’s The Edge Of Seventeen. She also played Emily in Pitch Perfect 2 and 3. Also a successful artist with Republic Records, Steinfeld will next be seen as as the female lead in Bumble Bee, set for a December 21 theatrical release, and is currently in the studio writing and recording her first full-length album.
