“Romeo and Juliet” had begun filming in Italy
by Georgia on February 6th, 2012 • Leave a Comment • in "Romeo and Juliet" (2013), Articles, Movies
According to Entertainment Weekly filming has begun for Hailee as Juliet for “Romeo and Juliet”, with Douglas Booth alongside as Romeo. The article also includes the full cast list for the film.
Hailee Steinfeld and Douglas Booth (The Pillars of the Earth) are now officially star-crossed lovers. The young actors began shooting Romeo and Juliet in Italy, it was announced today. The new cinematic adaptation of Shakespeare’s most famous tragedy, written by Downton Abbey‘s Julian Fellowes and directed by Carlo Carlei (Fluke), features a menagerie of familiar faces, including Homeland‘s Damian Lewis (Lord Capulet), Californication‘s Natascha McElhone (Lady Capulet), Another Year‘s Lesley Manville (Nurse), Ed Westwick (Tybalt), Let Me In‘s Kodi Smit-McPhee (Benvolio), Paul Giamatti (Friar Laurence), and Stellan Skarsgard (Prince of Verona).
“Every generation is interested in love,” said Fellowes, in a statement. “I mean, there is something about young love that is heartbreaking, and I think every teenager in the world would agree. All of that is very powerful. The point about teenage love is it’s before cynicism comes in to reshape one’s attitudes. You love when you’re young in a way that you’ll probably never love again.” Source.
“Romeo and Juliet” Update: Hailee will not be nude
by Georgia on June 11th, 2011 • Leave a Comment • in "Romeo and Juliet" (2013), Articles, Movies
Online media has been buzzing recently with rumours that Hailee’s new movie, Carlo Carlie’s “Romeo and Juliet”, would feature a nude scene between Hailee (as Juliet) and her Romeo co-star. However, Carlie has spoken to Entertainment Weekly exclusively and put an end to all the rumours: Hailee will not be going nude.
But in a statement exclusive to EW, director Carlo Carlei says the scene in question has been revised: “In the original adaptation written by the Oscar-winning screenwriter Julian Fellowes, there was a lovemaking scene that included nudity for the married Romeo and Juliet. This script was written with a 20-year-old actress in mind. As soon as Hailee Steinfeld was cast, all nudity and lovemaking have been excised from the script. It will be romantic and age-appropriate for a 14-year-old.”
Hailee in talks for “Romeo and Juliet”
by Georgia on April 8th, 2011 • Leave a Comment • in "Romeo and Juliet" (2013), Articles, Movies
A week after Hailee was announced as getting the lead in an upcoming “Sleeping Beauty” project, it is confirmed that Hailee is in talks to star in Carlo Carlie’s retelling of of William Shakespeare’s “Romeo and Juliet”. Hailee is up for the title role of Juliet. The news was broken by Hollywood Reporter with further details released by Up and Comers.
Hailee Steinfeld, Oscar-nominated for the Coen Bros’ True Grit, is in negotiations to star as Juliet in a new Romeo and Juliet movie.
Carlo Carlie, an Italian director perhaps best known for the 1992 festival foreign film Flight of the Innocent, is behind the camera for the adaptation of the William Shakespeare classic, which has a some big names behind it. [...] The actress, repped by ICM and Coast to Coast Talent, became attached to Forgotten, an adaptation of a YA novel that in February was set up at Paramount with Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage of Fake Empire producing. She is also attached to a Sleeping Beauty script that is currently out to buyers.
The film will finally begin shooting later this spring in Italy, with age-appropriate 14-year-old Steinfeld playing Juliet, one half of a young couple whose forbidden romance leads to tragedy for both their warring families. Carlei has said the film will be set in classic Shakespearan era and will bring the iconic characters to life for a new generation that doesn’t have its own version yet (we disagree and think 1996′s Baz Lurhmann is still relevant today but we digress). Julian Fellowes wrote the script.
